Out of my experience whenever you get multiples of ferrets it’s a bit harder to train them, but not impossible. Give them treats when they use the litter box. Make sure if you let them roam free that they have plenty of places to poop(paper/extra boxes) because they’re not like us and will not hold it in if they don’t have to.

U can get a leash or harness for ur ferret and teach it to avoid certain rooms or like teach it to avoid cables and if s/he continues just tape all the cables down with duct tape simple

EXACTLY! Omg.. My baby ferret is the worst. XD If there’s ANYTHING she can get into, she will try her damndest. Hehe. It would be wise to read up on ferrets before getting one. You can’t just stick them in a cage all the time. Nor can you leave them out constantly. Like Wombat said, they’ll get into everything. It is very much like having a kid. Don’t leave anything out you don’t want broken. Hehe.

You could but it’s not recommended. Owning a ferret is like having a three year old that never grows up. The can and WILL get into everything and when they are out they will need constant attention.

They are great pets. The only one I ever had get sick, was sick before I got her. She ended up having bone marrow cancer. With ferrets and small animals, they have a higher chance of getting cancers and stuff, but like I said, I have only had one have it. If you have any questions go ahead and message me and I will help you out. :)

ive had mines for almost two years and he’s only been sick once. they are great pets but required alot of attention the first year. mines just lets my younger cousins toss it around[not literally] but he’s pretty calm

They dont really get sick all the time. Ferrets are actually very hardy animals and dont get sick very much

I didn’t train mine. I found she went to the same spot all the time anyway. Mabye 2 or 3 diff spots in a big room. I just put a box there, but she didn’t like climbing into it and would do her business right next to it. I started putting paper down and she would go on that.

and what ferret ACTUALLY does this???

i have three retards that know i want them to go in their shit box and they refuse blatantly by flickin me off and crappin by the bedroom door so i step in it before i go get them water cause they drink it all and piss on their sheets in the top part of their cage. seriously shitbox training a ferret is like letting an infant crawl around without a diaper on.

each time ive tried to get mine to use a litter box he just slings the pellets all over the place for me to clean up and then sh*ts on the floor.

My ferret “naturally” went where ever the hell it wanted, 6 litter boxes in my ferret nation cage, he finally gets the hint. I also trained my ferret to ignore me “Come Here Lil’ Jimmy, come on” and he doesn’t come to me, success!!!

After about 6 months i didnt even ever need to use a cage for my ferret, because she always knew to use her pan. Its really nice when you can let them roam around your room and not worry about the going someplace. My ferret would sleep next to me in a little ball. All it requires is persistance and positive reinforcement in the form of treats and pets. Just keep trying, they will get it.

Unless you’re able to fit a decently large litter box, a sleeping area, and a feeding area comfortably in the cage, the cage may be too small. They won’t often use a sleeping area to poop, but there are exceptions to the rule…as in when you introduce a new ferret to old ferrets, you might have “poop wars” in which they’re telling everyone their territory. I have a big cage with several litter boxes, plus litter boxes in all corners of my room in which they play, and I have few accidents.

i have a medium sized cage 30Lx18Wx29H, its for two ferrets that i have not yet purchased. i could probably put a very small litter box in the bottom, but i read that ferrets dont like to use the restroom around the area where they sleep. do you know if thats true? and would you suggest that i try the litter box inside of the cage or place it in the corner of the room? id really appreciate some help, im trying to learn as much as i can before i get my two ferrets.

She seems to fail to mention that if you don’t use something to deoderize where the ferret went outside the litter box, he’ll just smell it out and keep going. Another thing is to block every corner with a litter box. Or block off non-pooping zones with tons of fluffly blankets which sometimes deters them. Plus ferrets do not neccessarily need a low litter box entry point, it just helps them out more if they do, especially old and young ferrets.

You can train them to poo in one place. Mine all do. They poo in one corner, but you have to let them choose the corner then put the tray there. Use a corner tray not a square one. My ferrets are weird and do not like to reverse over a ledge so I had to cut the front off the litter tray so they could just reverse backwards onto it. Im going to try a proper cat box with a cat flap next. Mine all use catflaps so might try. Mine poo out in the run so if they manage to use it, stops itgetting wet.
