wanted to say thank you! This helped when i found out one of my cats was diabetic. the cat food md really helped. it is expensive, but worth it. helped bring his levels prrrfect!
This is the best video. I posted one on giving my cat his shot… but it wasn’t quite as snazzy as this one. Our vet doesn’t have us testing his blood sugar at home or feeding him any special food. We just always have dry food down and plenty of water.
wow! so they can get off insulin? I am new at this and still learning. I hope I am giving the injections properly. Sometimes she growls when I do it, and sometimes no. Am I doing something wrong?

OMG – there’s a HUGE mistake in your video!!!You are not giving 2cc’s you’re giving 2 units or 2/10 of just 1cc… YIKES. TWO CC’s of insulin would kill a cat (and person) for that matter.
My Petie looks like your Merry. He’s on one unit of Lantus, and I have the same problem with the other kitty wanting his food. The MD is high in carbs, so we went low carb for the whole cat family (canned), of course considering individual cat family. They can all eat the same thing. So much easier and you don’t feel guilty! The scruff of the neck is actually fine for injections, but anywhere you can get skin is fine so no one place is sore. Good luck with remission!
For those that have cared, Merriadoc (AKA Merry) is doing GREAT! He is now off insulin and feeling better than he has in months. For all of you diabetic cat owners out there, DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! Things will get better! Just have the patience and love for your pet that they deserve and good things are just around the corner!
Yes, for all those that are reading this: DO NOT TAKE THIS VIDEO AS ANYTHING MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT. Merry does get 2 UNITS, not 2 CCs. And the neuropathy is all gone.
Thanks for the worry, but this video was shot months ago, just a couple weeks after he came down with diabetes, now the neuropathy is no more. Merriadoc is doing great!
Your video is adorable but your cat has diabetic neuropathy. My cat had the same thing. They literally walk on their knees. It will clear up on its own but only if the blood sugar is well controlled. My cat now walks upright again. You might want to check with your vet as to why it hasn’t cleared up.
nice video. a few things…i think you mean 2 units of lantus, not 2 cc (that would be 20 units far too much for any cat). also your sweet kitty looks like he has neuropathy (walking on hocks). you might want to go to the Feline Diabetic Message Board for help with that.
You’re on the right track but…1. m/d is still too high in carbs for a diabetic cat. There are many other foods that would be better. 2. The scruff of the neck is the worst place to give insulin and results in poor absorption. 3. Home testing is good, but an ear stick is preferable to a paw stick. Keep your cats numbers low using a better food (Wellness beef and chicken, or turkey are excellent choices) and it will probably go into remission. See yourdiabeticcat dot com for more info.

opps – the 2/10′s is a typo — as there are usually either 40units/cc or 100untis/cc for most insulins.
you’re incorrect. if thats true then i take 2.3cc’s of insulin…and my day takes 3.4cc’s of insulin….
